Well Service

• What it is: The most common application is hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, to extract oil or natural gas from deep underground.
• How Caterpillar supports customers: With products for the entire frac trailer — engines, transmissions, pumps, fluid ends, valves and seats, and flow iron. We’re the only manufacturer of well service products that can take customers all the way from the engine to wellhead.

Land Drilling & Production

• What it is: Drilling deep holes into the earth’s surface to reach the oil below (also called onshore drilling).
• How Caterpillar supports customers: With engines that power both modern electric-driven and traditional mechanical drill rigs. We also offer generator sets for camp power, emergency power and field electrification that can run on a wide variety of fuels.

Offshore Drilling & Production

• What it is: Drilling below the seabed to find and extract the petroleum that lies in rock formations.
• How Caterpillar supports customers: With power generation modules and generator sets that provide main power, essential services power and emergency power on board drilling vessels and production vessels and platforms. You’ll find our engines at work on the majority of the world’s offshore oil wells.
