Faster, Cheaper Components, with Cat® Quality
CI component exchange programs are common across Europe and parts of the Middle East. Now, thanks to Cat® dealer Mantrac, they have arrived in Africa.
The idea, like all good ideas, is simple and made possible by the high quality of Cat parts.
Here’s how it works: When a customer needs to rebuild a component quickly, they bring it to the dealer, where it is exchanged for a newly refurbished one sitting on the shelf and fitted immediately. Expert Cat technicians then rebuild the old component to the Caterpillar exacting standards before placing it back on the shelf for the next customer. The result is instantly available, good-as-new components at a significantly lower cost than new.

K. Afrane Rentals, which has seven Cat machines in its fleet, has benefited from this program. When it was time for them to replace an engine, Mantrac supplied and fit one within 24 hours - at approximately half the price of a new engine. Kwadwo Afrane, CEO of K. Afrane Rentals couldn't be happier. "It's good doing business with Mantrac as their staff is so cooperative, but I've always thought their prices were high compared to the local market. But with Mantrac Component Exchange Program, the engine was both cost-effective and readily available. I'd definitely use them again."
Mohamed Abdel Malek, Aftermarket Solutions Manager, who has overseen the Mantrac Component Exchange Program since its launch a year ago, emphasized how important
the program is for the region. "It's a game changer. In Africa, the market runs their machines hard, waiting for them to break down before doing any repairs. Meaning that they need everything immediately." In a market like Africa, with its size and transport infrastructure, immediacy would have been impossible. What a Cat dealer could get in two days in Europe, can take two months in Africa.
Wagih also explained the role that Caterpillar plays in making the program such a success. "We started the program with eight components; today, we have 34. And we work with both mining and construction companies. As far as I'm aware, we are the only ones doing this in Africa. Partly, it's because of the quality of the parts but also how hard Caterpillar has worked to make it possible, like creating a support program specifically to give us access to the components in the first place."
Cheaper parts, instant availability, and that legendary Cat quality. It’s no wonder the Component Exchange Program is a popular solution in Africa.
