If you work in demanding environments or your jobsite simply requires them, you may want to look into guard upgrade kits for your equipment. Guards can protect heavy equipment lights as well as a quick disconnect, harness or quick coupler. These can help enhance your machine’s durability, and there are a lot of options to choose from. Here’s how to install guards on a Cat® 299D3 Compact Track Loader. While the process is similar for other models, consult your Cat dealer for specific instructions.
Remove the nuts and washers from the lights.
Align the plate with the existing bolts.
Secure the plate with the nuts and washers.
If needed, trim the edge guard for proper plate assembly.
Install the plate using screws, two washers on top, hard washers and a locknut underneath.
Loosen the screws for the rear lights.
Place the plate and let it rest on the slots.
Tighten the four screws to secure the guard.
Repeat the process for the other rear light.
Remove the bolts and washers from the lift arm plate.
Align the cover holes with the lift arm holes.
Install the cover using bolts, washers and nuts.
Install two flange head bolts on the front plate.
Insert the grommet and secure the cover with a padlock.
Loosen the mounting bracket by removing the bolts.
Slide the plate under the mounting bracket and align the hole.
Reinstall and tighten the bolts to secure the bracket.
Tilt the coupler assembly to align it parallel with the ground.
Remove the bolts, washers, and step assembly.
Insert the guard tabs into the slots.
Align the vertical surface of the cover.
Secure the guard cover using bolts and washers.
Attach the new brackets to the side plates using bolts and washers.
Ensure proper alignment with the holes in the plate.
Install the plate with bolts and washers.
