What Makes A Drivetrain Core Acceptable?

You may return an end-of-life part — or core — to your local authorized Cat dealer for a core refund.

Your dealer will inspect your core following Core Acceptance Criteria.³

In most cases, we accept a core that:

Is fully assembled and complete
Is not visibly cracked, broken or welded
Displays no non-operational damage, like mishandling, excessive rust, corrosion or pitting
Has an acceptable Cat part number

When it comes to Cat Reman, core return is essential. Everything we remanufacture requires a core, which is the end-of-life part that’s returned to Caterpillar by the customer or dealer. At our facilities, we inspect, salvage and remanufacture the core before it’s delivered to customers as a product with like new performance and quality.

It's a matter of quality, and Cat Reman core acceptance criteria helps us determine what makes the cut. Acceptable used core drives our supply chain and keeps our product line going. Once accepted, the core moves through the Cat Reman process, where it’s remanufactured and salvaged to perform like new. And while we have a set of standards that define our process, there’s a lot of flexibility in the type of core we accept.
