Pro Mountain Biker Camille Balanche Revamped her Track with Cat® Excavators
Camille Balanche—a professional mountain bike racer will multiple world titles—knew her home track needed a bit of TLC. Camille and her team built the track by hand using Trailnet, but there were a few sections that needed a bit more grit.
“There are two sectors that we struggle on with a lot rocks,” she explained. “There are rocks everywhere, so it’s getting really tricky to ride, especially for the beginners. We need either a lot of dirt, which we don’t have, or just a big machine to break all the rocks.”
Enter: Michael Herren and his Cat® 302 CR and 302.7 CR Mini Excavators.
Michael arrived with the agility, versatility, and power to reshape parts of Camille's home track and bring her vision to life. Together, they did more than just break up some rocks—in additional to cleaning up areas of the track, they reshaped the step-up (a jump where the landing is higher than the point of takeoff) to make it a bit faster and added a big berm into an all-new jump.
Having helped build the track by hand herself, Camille wasn’t about to let Michael have all the fun. “I had the chance to ride the machines,” she recalls. “You need to be actually really good. You have so many handles to move at the same time in every direction. I feel like it’s very similar to our sport…I really like it.”
